Is the game that just completely sucked me in. I want to play more, but its soooo late.
The game takes place in WW2, Pacific theater, Japanese VS American Forces. And it does so PERFECTLY.
No game has really properly captured the experience well for me beforehand, because all of them stumble on the concept of BALANCING. The American forces had an immense advantage in firepower. Flamethrowers, Automatic weapons, even their standard service rifle was Semi Automatic for the period. They had good, deadly guns.
The Japanese, however didn't have quite the same arsenal. Mostly bolt action rifles and pistols, supplemented by fairly inaccurate (Even for the time) Type 100 SMG's.
Most games struggle to balance this, and usually fail in the process. RO2: Rising storm, however, embraces these differences, and is truly ASYMMETRICAL Warfare.
The Americans have deadly, powerful automatic weapons, and all the supplies and fixings of a modern military. The Japanese, have courage and ingenuity on their side. They can plant grenades in dirt, sand, ect as booby traps, And their rifles come with Bayonets right off the bat. Even their SMG can get a Bayonet. They place price on their skill in close fighting, and have a Banzai charge. Most of the time rushing in RO will just get you shot, but with that, the adrenaline will let you take mortal wounds and keep charging. If they pull the pin of a grenade, rush forward, and die holding it (Suicide charge) They will not actually lose a reinforcement ticket, meaning suicide attacks are a good technique.
As a result, the combat is brutal. Americans firing wildly at a charging group of Japanese troops, Rifles raised, screaming "LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR" and shrugging off mortal wounds is a terrifying ordeal. Same as when your playing Japanese, and the air is so full of bullets you can't even stand up less you be torn to shreds.
This description doesn't do it justice. There will be a live stream of this game, either Monday, or Tuesday. And it will be beautiful. Heck, if any of you actually got the game, you'd be welcome to join as well.
